I joined Tūtaki Youth Inc. in August 2016 as part of the Business Team. Tūtaki Youth is a great community-focussed organisation that thrives on making whoever walks through the door feel welcome and looked after. It is certainly a hive of activity with people popping in and out to utilise the services we provide, or simply hang out in a fun and positive space.
In 2016 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Massey University, with majors in English and History and a minor in Māori Studies. I’m passionate about learning and enjoy being able to bring my own skills to the role and also develop new ones along the way.
There is a well-known Māori proverb that says:
“He aha te mea nui i te ao?
He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata”.
“What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people, it is people, it is people”.
To me, this epitomises what the Tūtaki Youth team is all about. The staff here are dedicated to supporting young people and their families as they navigate their way through this crazy thing called life. Every team member goes above and beyond – for those who engage with our services, for each other, and for the organisation as a whole. What’s more, they are constantly striving to improve.
Working at Tūtaki Youth is a rewarding experience. Every day is different here, but adaptability and innovation are what will drive this organisation forward.
Tūtaki Youth has achieved great things already; I’m excited to see how far we can go.
